American Horror Story: Tate's Backstory

Hallelujah, Violet finally googled her high school. After a twenty second internet search she learned the truth about Tate. And it was not a pleasant truth.
Tate Langdon's school shooting on American Horror Story

Tate did exactly what we inferred he did. He walked into a school and shot a bunch of people. The scene was terrifying and true to life. I appreciate that American Horror Story actually had the balls to make Tate such a villain in the opening scene. And he was a villian. It was horrible. He showed no mercy and we, as the audience, sympathized completely with the students we knew were going to get it. Also - what are those scars all over him?

Tate returns home and calmly sits on his bed in his nicely fitting black shirt, waiting for SWAT to show up and riddle his chest with bullets, condemning him to a sexless ghost life.

The thing is, Evan Peters and the writers have done a really great job of splitting Tate in two. Ghost Tate is so confused. He obviously has none of the anger or contempt that living Tate must have had.  The multiple personality theory is running rampant over on IMDb and while I'm not totally sold on that, living Tate and Ghost Tate are starting to feel like separate characters. And obviously, there's more to the story of living Tate - like wtf with the scars?

Last night's episode was a great one. I'm happy to have learned more about Tate. And I'm even happier there's still more to learn. Because my biggest concern is that once we learn his whole story, and he learns his whole story, he'll "cross over" and that will be the end of Tate. THAT would be lame.

  1. i have no idea! i want to believe that they are self inflicted..but i think if they had the scars there..then eventually they are going to tell us why they are there

  2. on IMDB it shows the actor who plays Tate as only being in the first 7 episodes... if they're right then it seems like Tate will indeed cross over in this next episode, end of that story (unfortunately, he is one of my favorite characters... so angsty!). i hope that if he does cross over (which i think he will) that they will somehow find a way to work him back into the show in the future.

  3. That IMDb thing is wrong. Ryan Murphy has said the final few episodes of the season will be very Tate centric. I can't wait!

  4. Once Tate learns about himself he won't cross over as long as the house still stands. Remember that the house is damned because of that Nora and her doctor husband did. Moira, Hayden, Nora- they all know that they are dead and are trapped.

  6. I bet his mom hurt him before he killed the kids. Or people were trying to fight back.
