Top Ten Angsties of 2011 Part 1

Merry New Year, everyone! It's officially 2012. If those crazy Mayans were right, we have about twelve months of television before the world ends. Hopefully, there will be lots of Angst in the upcoming year. Before we get going with 2012, lets take one final look back at the best angsty characters of 2011.

Today, I present you with angsties 10-6. Check back tomorrow for 5-1. Number one probably won't come as much of a shock to anyone - but I do have some fun screen-caps I never had a chance to post before.

I set a few ground rules to avoid having half the list go to characters on The Vampire Diaries. There is only one character per show and their ranking is based on storylines that took place in 2011. Grab a cup of cocoa and sit back for the angstiest boys on the block.

10
Coming in at number ten: True Blood's Eric Northman.

This season, Eric lost his memory. I enjoyed neutered Eric for a little bit, but he's so far down on my list because eventually, he just seemed happy and normal. Eric's torture comes from Sookie's rejection and this season, she finally accepted him. While there's something intriguing about the lost puppy thing, it wore thin for me. I'm hoping next year there's more ghost Godric to really get Eric's goat.

Number Nine: Silas Botwin on Weeds.

Silas isn't the most angsty character ever - but just look at him.

Silas has had angstier storylines, but this season, Silas trusted the wrong person and got screwed over royally. He also has a major complex about his dumb daddy and some fun mommy issues too. Overall, I sort of loathed season seven of Weeds, but having Hunter Parrish to look at made it all better. And I can totally dig him as a brunette.

Number eight: Caleb Rivers from Pretty Little Liars.

Mommy issues seem to be the new trend in angsty-boy accessories this year. Caleb's mom abandoned him when he was a youngster, forcing him into the evils of the foster system. Alone and lonely, Caleb is all weepster when his mom finally reappears in his life. I like Caleb and I like Caleb and Hanna but I could stand to see him a bit more tortured.

Number Seven: Juice Ortiz on Sons of Anarchy

Juice beat the rest of the characters on Sons of Anarchy because he made the ultimate angst choice this season by trying to off himself. Happily, he failed. After The Man threatened to tell the motorcycle club that Juice's father wasn't white, Juice thought his only way out was death. Whether the club would have reacted the way Juice feared, we didn't learn. But Juice struggled a lot with his loyalty to the club and it was great to watch. It was especially heartbreaking because Juice is the member of the club quickest to laugh. I hope next season we get to see at least a laugh or two from Juicy-boy.

Rounding out the bottom five: Damon Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries

Ian Somerhalder as Damon dies on Vampire Diaries Season 2 Finale with Elena
The Vampire Diaries slot was really a toss-up between Damon and Stefan for 2011. At the end of the day, Damon won out because Ian Somerhalder is just too damn sexy to not be on this list.

The season two finale of Vampire Diaries had Damon slowly dying of werewolf bite.  THAT was a good time. While I think the makeup people went a little overboard with the sweaty sheen, having Elena take care of him in his final moments was a lot of fun to watch.

Since Stefan's gone all Angelus, Damon has gotten the lion's share of Elena's affections. But the torture keeps on coming with his decision to help Stefan get his head right, even though it means he'll lose Elena. Always the bridesmaid, huh Damon?

There you have it. Boys 10-6. Tomorrow we'll see who will be taking top honors. Even if #1 is a no brainer, 2-5 are sort of a mystery, right? Happy 2012 everyone!
