Switched at Birth: Emmett and Bay's Sitting In A Tree

They're still not quite at angsty yet. But they are incredibly sweet. This is the episode where Daphne finds out that Emmett and Bay have been hanging out. And she finds out as Emmett is teaching Bay the sign for love. Awwww.

The thing that's so great about Emmett and Bay in these early episodes of hang-out-itude is that Bay is fighting an uphill battle she doesn't even know about. Emmett's stance on dating hearing girls has been firmly established and he's not into it. So Bay was at a disadvantage from the start. But she's very direct and never awkward about the communication issues between her and Emmett. And, as he says at a later date, he doesn't see her as hearing or deaf. He only sees her as Bay.

Also, he's still trying to do what's right for Daphne. She was the one who actually got abandoned by whoever this man is. And he thinks she'd benefit from confronting him. Early Emmett is practically perfect in every way. Totally confident, a little rebellious, a great friend, and unwilling to compromise on who he is to fit in. Ah, the good ole days.

After Emmett tries to convince Daphne to join him and Bay on their quest to find abando-dad, him and Bay have some time to kill while they wait to see if Daphne's going to show. How do you kill time? You totally adorably dance.

I love this scene. Apart from just being cuteness on top of cuteness, it's one of the first times Emmett initiates the adorable. Sure, he's offered Bay a few rides, but their hang-out time has largely been related to Bay's hunt for her dad. Getting Bay to dance with him has zero to do with daddy hunting.

Anyway, blah blah blah, it's not Bay's dad. Later, Emmett stops by Bay's school to see her. He signs that he likes her - but when you're not great at sign language, you don't want to incorrectly interpret something like that. It'd be super embarrassing for Bay if she thought that's what he was saying but he was really saying I like cheese. So she stands there for a minute looking all inquisitive and then BAM. He kisses her. Message received. The language of love.

Aww. Again. They are the king and queen of Aww at this point. I love it. They get to keep their Aww Crowns for a few more episodes before stuff takes a turn. But yeah. At this point... Awwwwww.
