The Newsroom: The Jim/Lisa Relationship Must Go. For Real.

Well... hmm.

First of all, a John Gallagher Jr. with a guitar is a John Gallagher Jr. I can get behind. Whether it be a real yet obviously recorded guitar or a fake plastic toy that leads to the heights of adorablocity - I can dig it.

Although for the otherwise uninitiated: Click! Click! You know you want to.

But back to the episode. The Don/Maggie/Jim/Lisa square endures after an episode with too much yet somehow NO relationship movement.

Things begin with Lisa telling Jim she loves him over Face Time while Maggie is standing right there. She says it very casually - like the night before wasn't the first time she'd ever said it. There's a case to be made that "I love you" could stand to be a bit more casual - especially in tvland - but I don't think Lisa is there to make that case. Therefore - she was either a) honestly under the impression that it wouldn't be weird to say it in front of Maggie or b) she wanted to see how Maggie would react. Either way - Maggie's reaction seemed to prove something to Lisa...

Then - Maggie does what she does best and embarrasses herself by butting into Jim's business. I love Maggie. I do. And I ship her and Jim. But I definitely feel frustrated with how much she bosses him around in all matters concerning Lisa. And how little Jim stands up for himself. They really played up Jim's relationship cowardice this week - and I guess that's some explanation for the constant tongue lashings he takes from Maggie - but really - I wish they would just get to tongue lashings of a different variety.

Then they all rush into work because *something* crazy is happening! I have to admit, for probably the first time in seven episodes, I tend to agree with the haters who thought the relationship stuff should have been set aside at this point. Frankly - I think they all would have been too busy to break up and un-break up and argue about who likes who mostest of all. But. Putting that aside...

Lisa does a 100% normal thing and breaks up with Jim. Because he's obviously not into her as much as she's into him. It's a good move on her part. And good on her for being the person in the relationship with balls.

But then they undo it all by having Jim ask her out on a real date. Ugh!

Why is Lisa willing to go out with him again?! She really really thinks him and Maggie like each other. Right? Am I crazy? She thinks that, right? And they've been dating roughly five months. That's not NO time. If Jim isn't into her - why would he suddenly start being into her? If I were Lisa, I'd be saying, look. It's nice of you and all, but I don't need the drama of dating a guy who is a) really into my best friend and b) always taking relationship advice from that SAME BEST FRIEND.

So... yeah. Jim and Lisa: JUST BREAK UP ALL READY.

P.S. I really loved the line: "She IS very sexy because of her sexy sexiness and the very sexual sexiocity of the --" Maggie's best when Maggie is being funny.
